I think it is an excellent painting, but it probably wouldn't make a great book cover. I don't know what kind of book it is, but it seems like it might be too busy.

It does fit in with your plan for this piece. I'm guessing that this is going to be the imagery for a slip cover of a hard cover, since it seems to be designed to wrap around the book. Great job capturing the atmoshere of the entended period. Smoke billowing out from river boat in distance off in distance is sized properly, but its' edges are on the harsh side especially for smoke. Gentle slope of clouds guides eye towards main river boat, which provides viewer a visual heirarchy through the scene. Well done.

It really does look like an oil painting. Great work and colors!

It does look very much like the classic old oil paintings, and it is a really good painting! The only thing that bothers me is that the seagulls in the sky seems to be closer that the smoke from the boat. Judging from the size of them, I don't think they are. The reason to this is that the smoke has very blurred edges, and the gulls are very sharp edged in comparison to the smoke.
But it's a great painting, anyway!
